« Sometimes you just can’t fake the funk

Music.
It is my muse, my inspiration, my sanity.

Without it, I’d be a pent up “you-know-what” and not so much of a joy to be around.

But luckily, my friends tell me I’m awesome, and well, I’ll chose to believe them over that guy that called me the C Word after I almost hit him with my car. [opps.]

I could understand why he approached me with such a disastrous moniker.
But only if the following conditions were present;
a] I had to pee
b] he was mocking my female characteristics of driving.
c] He was Chris Brown
or
d] He was blaring a track that only consisted of the autotune and an 808.

anti autotune

Which brings me to the saga known as the hatred for this fad that has lasted 6 months too long. Actually it’s life span should have died at conception.
And to those who think it’s cool, think back to Kid Rock, with his fur coat, pimp hat, and him wanting to be a “coowwwboy baaaby.”
YEAH, HIS NO TALENT ASS THOUGHT IT WAS COOL TOO!!

Go ahead. Feel good about using autotune, KANYE.
You might have the most amazing jerry curl mullet in the universe, but honey, your latest album was more annoying than those dim all red LV kicks.

And you know, I give props to some mad producing that has been taking place. And I could agree that using a drum machine is cheaper and convenient. I feel you.

But man, getting a live drummer just makes the birds chirp, and that sun will now have a permanent smiley face all over the place.

Seriously, live instruments are where my heart lies.
And tell me, how is the banjo not cool?? The violin, the fucking cello??????

Have you seen musicians in amazing bands that rock the fuck out of a cello on stage?
THIS is the shit that drives me to appreciate musicality of artists. THAT, my friend, is talent.

If you haven’t seen it, I’m sorry.
And as much as I enjoy DJ sets, there’s something completely untouchable about seeing a group of people collaborate in such an inspiring way.
And that goes for all live instruments and pure musicians.

But I have a soft spot for strings. Ever since my first listen to Cursive when Gretta Cohn was in the band and her cello’s melody brought the off structure sound that fit Tim Kasher’s lyrics and voice so well. Then it was Murder By Death with Sarah Balliet, who impressed me beyond belief with her cello playing. Tracy Bonham and her violin.

Ahhh, and the lap steel guitars. *le sigh* It’s a beautiful thing to maniupulate an instrument beyond the original idea of itself.
Fucking beautiful.

Back to my ear wrenching annoyance. I was dissappointed in Bon Iver’s new “Blood Bank EP” as there is autotune on there. But, with “For Emma, Forever Ago” proves his vocal talent, so I can kindly look beyond it.
But Lil’ Wayne, Kanye, T Pain, and every other artist that use it to try to better their voice [because you know these fools can’t hold a note, along with other pop artists, Jennifer Lopez. I see you!!!] by using this mechanism is cheating the heart and soul of music.
I mean, I guess their standards are low already because of the majority of the lyrical content. They don’t sustain to the vulnerability and desperate sincerity of many amazing artists.

But here’s my tip for those fellers. Get over the fad because it was dead long ago.
And yes, I’m just one random music obsessor from Austin, TX and no, my personal preference is not their type of music.

Just let me just say this.

I still have EARS!!
And they will continue to hurt with your insensitivity!
So please stop. kthx.

    I agree. Death to autotune!

    Two things…

    1. Austin has a talented MC with live instrumental backing. His name is KJ Hines.

    2. As for rockin’ cello, Rasputina’s album “Thanks For The Ether” is amazing.
