Neiliyo hits the floor

Attention nieces and nephews; you should download this mixtape.

Local 90’s-Electro hero, Neiliyo knows all about a proper party. Whether it was at the Knuckle Rumbler 2000 ‘n’ Shine New Year’s Eve Party with Zeale (above) or your apartment shower, he guarantees a good time like all those numbers on the bathroom stalls…combined. Yes, he dances around on the floors, feet in the air and even in his sailboat boxers, but there’s more to his shows than fancy foot-work or raybans.

Neiliyo knows a thing or two about making a badass mixtape. With his first EP/mixtape release, Copywriting 101: The Mixtape, I’ve learned a few rules that are necessary for a good mixtape, minus all that High Fidelity influence:

1. Anything with Lil’ Wayne brings everyone to the dancefloor.

2. Pay attention to the women in the audience, they will buy most of your records, so anything they can sing along to. Just not “Sweet Caroline.” Please.

3. Anything 90’s. Us babies from the 80’s are grown now and will validate any current mixtape with throwbacks to the 90’s.

4. Sex always sells. Especially blatant, raunchy, ass-grabbing and even awkward sex.

5. You have to make them dance a little (this one for the women, again).

6. Bass lines so funky you can smell them.

7. Fleetwood Mac, Fleetwood Mac, Fleetwood Mac. Just ask Pase Rock and he’ll tell you.

8. Please don’t forget the 808.

9. Don’t take yourself too seriously, you’ll scare the women away.

and 10. “The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don’t wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules.”

(Just had to, it was so fitting.)
