« Weekend Recap: The Weekend Never Ends Version

There are weekends like these that go down in history folks- when Austin really shines as a city. Also* these are now 3 day weekends- cuz Thursday can’t be ignored. This is gonna be a long one folks.
Thursday night- COMMON at Stubb’s. No words. Still the best.
Next was Midnight Juggernauts at Beauty Bar- I was impressed at how many people they fit in there- but that’s about it. They played “Shadows” early in the set- so we moved on to the Common after party.
Keep It Local put on THE best after party at the Mohawk. Keep it Local is a non-profit organization that puts on events focused around the hip hop community and has their hands in some real talent- like Table Manners Crew, Zeale, and obviously- Mr. Common Sense himself. Common joined the crowd, and hopped on stage to M.C. the last hour of DJ Dummy’s set, which was chalk full of the classics, check out the sampler below.

Friday night- Orion dropped another insane set at Creekside.
Yo Majesty’s DJ packed the set with everything from cumbia to salsa to baile to even dropping some of his own rhymes over the tracks. Dialect and DJ Yay Yay joined on the mic for even more ad libbed madness- resulting in one of the most packed nights I’ve seen at Creekside in a minute. Orion is not to be ignored.
Saturday night- THE best joke ever, Justice and Kavinsky play Black & Tan
…Or at least their biggest fans did. Doneski and Markus with a K dropped a killer set as the french duo Saturday night. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? There is nothing like 200 hipsters packed into a dark room lit only by the glow of a 3 1/2 foot illuminant cross. Below: King Louie- the original DJ hype man?
DJ Rubix started off the night as a convincing Kavinsky, and led into a “Stress” powered Justice set, which began with the crowd holding up cardboard crosses, like the freakin’ pope was coming. But if house music had a pope- Justice would be it, right?
People supposedly started lining up at 6pm, thinking they were gonna gonna see Justice and Kavinsky for $3 cover and $2 wells, that would be a gift from above. Impeccably picked tracks and plenty of Justice/Kavinsky videos on repeat made for a fun night. Still recovering.
