« Celebrate Sweet 16 with a Coma

I am a hard sell on rock these days- I’ve been on this hip hop / electro kick for a few months now. I’ve heard about Girl in a Coma plenty- but never gave them much notice. Until I saw this.
Nina Diaz’s vocals are dark and engaging, I was hooked after the first few tracks. They have been compared to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Smiths, and the like- but they have their own sound completely that has made for a front to back awesome debut, Both Before I’m Gone. I love every song on this album and cannot wait to see them live.
Not only will be opening for Tegan and Sara’s fall tour starting September 30, but Emo’s is celebrating their 16th anniversary with them tomorrow night. This venue that has seen a gazillion acts, and is celebrating with this San Antonio trio for their 16th- so go check them out. Even better- its in the lounge too, which means its going to be loud as shit and packed to the brim. So after the third Toadies show tomorrow, get comatose at Emo’s lounge, they will be playing with the unstoppable live antics of Crash Gallery and Southern Drama.

They’re great live! I used to watch them all the time when I lived in San Antonio.

The trio has come a long way since I first saw them at Red Eyed Fly in 2005 and then again at The Parlor in 2006. Even then they had the venues packed. Nina’s vocals are awesome and they have some great punk with a tinge of pop going on. Glad to see they are back in Austin - unfortunately, a rare event these days.
