« Let’s Get Nostalgic: The First CD Ever

Ah, I remember Ready to Die being the first CD I ordered from one of those ‘11 CD’s for a penny’ CD clubs back in the fifth grade, and having to turn it down during track 8, or the *interlude* for those who know. This was probably the first album I felt some real ownership of- totally separate from anyone older that may have influenced me. When I saw the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Big Poppa” video on MTV, I was hooked. Now, the album is back as Ready to Die: The O.G. Edition which adds some new sounds and verses to previously recorded tracks like “The What,” “Machine Gun Funk,” and “Me And My B**ch”.
Another album, that wasn’t actually mine, but stolen from the parent’s collection and was as influential at that young age- was The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Axis: Bold as Love. You can’t really compare the two. Fortunately, DJ Doc Rok doesn’t make you choose either with his mix The Biggie Hendrix Experience. Ok, yes its not exactly the genius of The Grey Album, and the Hendrix pieces are not all pulled from the same album, but there are some tracks on there worth a listen, and he drops some Eric Clapton in there too.
You can download Ready to Die: O.G. Edition from Ruby Hornet and The Biggie Hendrix Experience at djdocrock.com. Also from from DJ Doc Rock- American Zepplin (Jay Z and Led Zepplin)
Biggie Hendrix Experience - Juicy/Are You Experienced
Biggie Hendrix Experience - Who Shot Ya/Cocaine
American Zepplin - Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)
Notorious B.I.G. - Gimme the Loot (Uncensored Never Before Heard version)
So with the release of Ready to Die: The O.G. Edition, I ask you, what was your first album?

Yeah, what ya’ll know about that… Vinyl kid, I actually still haven’t “bought” a CD. I went from from Vinyl to digital, skipping all that CD noise.

My first was actually my first three - all purchased together. I got them the day I bought my first CD player. The player cost me $120 (which is equivalent to paying $15 for a CD player today). Cheap ass brand but that bitch lasted me about 7 years and played more CDs than any player that I have owned since. Aaah..the days of delivering the Rocky Mountain News, no expenses in life and only expendable income.
Back on topic - Public Enemy ‘Fear of a Black Planet’, Metallica ‘…And Justice for All’, and (ahem) Vanilla Ice ‘To the Extreme’. What? You can’t tell me that you are between 26 and 34 and you don’t know the first verse of Ice, Ice, Baby.
