Remember the first time you saw this picture? And you thought some kids in the 80’s took drugs before their yearbook photo? Ya, that was a good moment, a moment when HEALTH arrived, and they haven’t left or stopped touring since. They have toured with Crystal Castles, done a ton of Austin dates with Daniel Francis Doyle, and played about 15 shows last SXSW.
HEALTH is better than the average noise rock/disco remix kids for a few reasons: bling t-shirts and other assorted fashions, the above picture, the use of all capital letters in their name in a year full of lost vowels, and from what I’ve heard- a great live show.
HEALTH plays tomorrow at Emo’s. $8 gets you 4 bands and a chance to see Aesop Rock in between set changes. The openers are great anyway- we’ve already discussed Transmography, but what about Daniel Francis Doyle? Is this guy really a one man band? with like 8 arms? where is all that sound coming from? Nouns Group I’m not too familiar with, I don’t know their stance on vowels and acronyms, but they hate myspace, hail from Denton- which has brought us good stuff like Ghosthustler, and they recently played a show with Teenage Cool Kids- another soon-to-be Dentronic sensation. Either way getting to see the best new band from California this year isn’t a bad way to spend a Friday night. [Buy Tickets]
