I know we have covered this band a lot lately- but I don’t care- they are irresistible fun, and they are about to go on tour- so go see them tomorrow before they are too big to play Austin anymore. Belaire plays Emo’s inside stage tomorrow night with The Carrots; who will be finishing their jam packed month of touring with The Strange Boys right here at home. Belaire has new material in the works and will be trying it out on tour, with dates including a Todd P show in Brooklyn and a Chi-town Pitchfork after-party July 19.
Portland’s New Bloods and Hornet Leg will be opening the show. These are two bands that I hadn’t really heard of but came highly recommended. With a pretty raw sound coming from both groups- this makes for an interesting lineup on a Tuesday night, and something I wanted to touch on momentarily. In the past year I’ve noticed Portland has been an area of growing dysentery jokes musical relevance. They have had a rise in their ‘cool bands are from here’ status, i.e. Menomena, Glass Candy, but I’m still not buying it. Is Portland the new Austin? Will the sweet harmonies/ matching outfits of Belaire and The Carrots stack up against the backwoods/basement sounds of the New Bloods and Hornet Leg? Find out for yourself, see Belaire tomorrow- $6, show starts at 10pm.
